I created Skill Share Pict-shun-air-ee as an interactive game for building community and learning about the hidden skills in a group.*
My work as a social practitioner is informed by popular education; I believe that everyone has skills worth sharing, and that we're all better off when we learn from each other.
But how can we learn from each other, if we don't take the time to find out what we can learn from each other?
Skill Share Pict-shun-air-ee was designed for exactly that purpose, to uncover:
- skills we'd be happy to share with others
- skills we'd like to learn
- skills we have which might surprise others
I've facilitated this game among fellow artists-in-residence in Workspace at Lower Manhattan Cultural Center (LMCC) in NYC. I was very happy to learn that LMCC staff enjoyed the activity so much, they adapted it for a staff retreat!
If you are joining a new cohort, or want to help an existing group have fun and find points of connection, give it a try.
I've made the image freely available under Creative Commons' CC by NC 4.0 license (meaning: you can share and adapt it for noncommercial purposes as long as you attribute me, acknowledge changes, and link to the license).

*Thanks to Related Tactics for inviting me to contribute to their project, Ready, which provided the impetus for me to create a calligraphy version of the instructions, which has been exhibited at the Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio, and at Southern Exposure in San Francisco, California.
